One Week from today.....

we will be leaving for Ukraine. The time since we learned of our appointment date has flown by!

We have been trying to get everything ready to travel. If anyone has suggestions of items to take, please share with us.

Thanks!

Hi Rita! Hat. gloves and scarf are a must. Two pairs would be great since you walk places a lot. I also love having boots that are comfortable to walk in but somewhat fashionable--the women there dress very nice!!!

I also LOVED having a stash of almond packs and meal bars (like Luna Bars) for those days you are chasing paperwork and don't have time to stop for breakfast or lunch. I don't last long without food!!

Do you have a Kindle? Pricey investment but nice to have all your books and Bible in one.

Long underwear. Walking around in jeans was just way to cold. It helped to have a layer underneath (even cotton tights is better). It was around -25 C when we were there, though.

Feel free to email any questions to me at jill@enelsons.com. We are waiting for our interpol clearance and then we'll be heading back for our court date. Hurray! Maybe we'll run into each other. :)

Several items I always take: zip lock bags, laptop with movies, TV series, and games geared toward the age of the child you hope to adopt; UNO; plug adapters; over the counter meds like advil, tums, etc; and clothes that can be layered. I used to take 2 big suitcases, now I take one carry-on. Its a pain carrying around so much luggage. Email me and I will give you our Ukrainian phone number. Our appointment is also the 10th.

We just left Ukraine one week ago - and it was COLD! Long underwear, tights etc. are a must! Dress in layers, turtle necks under everything. Snow boots are also a necessity. If you are a picky eater like I am, then pack along some necessities to get you through: peanut butter, yellow rice, lipton onion soup mix to season with. FYI chocolate chips, cream cheese, confectionary sugar, brown sugar can not be found anywhere. I packed along a few of those instant hand heaters that hunters use when hunting, and they came in handy. You can find them in Walmart or Target for about a buck. Trust me, there are going to be some days when you can't feel your finger tips or toes. A flashlight also comes in handy. We'll be praying for your travels.

Hey, bring some simple spices with you like pepper, ketchup, tabasco. Velveeta noodles (squeezy cheese kind), an extention for your adapter because the plug in are inset into the wall by 1/2 an inch, very versital clothing/shoes (the less the better), and always keep a quick snack with you to tide you over.

can't wait to follow your story!
Our friends there now are being told that they should have interpol clearance next week. So that would be about 2 weeks since it was turned in at their sda appt. So hopefully your request got turned in so it will not slow you down!!
We get(got) submitted today!

Hi - we adopted from Ukraine in 2009. We are so happy with our little boy! I envy the adventure you are about to embark on. We never saw God move in such obvious and awesome way as He did through our adoption. My suggestions are: bring a photo album with pictures of your home, the room, family members; a shoulder bag or back pack - to haul your goodies back and forth every day on visits to the orphanage; lots of reading material or movies; a journal - to keep track of daily expenses and memorable moments; Wet ones. If you're in a decent sized city, you will be able to buy a lot of things there. You're not going to the outback. They do have stores and with a favorable exchange rate, we found we could get things cheaper there (toys, snacks, etc. Look for Korona chocolate!). Don't go overboard on packing. Go into it with a good attitude and covered in prayer and you'll be fine. We'll be watching the blog and praying for you. God bless!
